Fermata Jan 21, 2022: Rest and Study Go Together
Fermata is the weekly newsletter describing some of the past week’s highlights from Notes of Rest, which is my spiritual retreat ministry that interweaves text, music, and questions for the sake of cultivating stillness, introspection, and creativity in communities so that all may rest. I'd love to host a Notes of Rest for your church, seminary, or affinity group. Feel free to reply to this email to start the conversation!
Recap: Notes of Rest for "Spirituality for the Contemporary World" Class, Rest Assured Devotional Series
Following Jesus yields rest that can help us learn. This was the guiding light for Notes of Rest for Spirituality for a Contemporary World, a class from Dr. Kwok Pui Lan at Candler School of Theology. We sat with Jesus' call to the downtrodden in Matthew 11:28-30. He says that they should come learn from him and that he will give them rest. What good news for this group of students navigating yet again COVID protocols for their schooling. I praised God to see students relax and breathe a little deeper as they saw the need to wed rest and study.
How do you feel about Jesus' invitation to come to him and rest? When you rest, who else rests around you?
In other news, the "It Is Well With My Soul" Devotional Series entry of the Rest Assured Devotional Series is now posted! This devotional series is a spiritual companion to the album Rest Assured. You can read the entire series here.
May The Lord grant us Notes of Rest today, for salvation has come and is coming.
abundantly,
Julian
