Hi everyone,
Tour with Isaiah Collier has been a wild ride. Wow. More to come on that later (but you can check out the happenings here.)
But today’s note is short. First, I wanted to say how much I appreciate you. It’s been a gift to receive your reciprocal care for me. Several of you have reached out over the months suggesting I take time off between posts so I can practice Notes of Rest myself. I’ve heeded that, and will be building that into the rhythm of Fermata now. I’m going to scale back my newsletter from every week to just a few times a month given all that's been happening in my life - e.g., tour, Notes of Rest sessions, and The JuJu Exchange. It’ll be a chance for me to practice what I preach.
But in other news, my band The JuJu Exchange has new music out today! We are in the midst of unfolding this project called JazzRx, which is sonic medicine for our fans and the world. We released a batch today called JazzRx: Hope Dose, which is a bunch of musical responses to prompts we have received from seekers of hope. Resilience and Transition and Waiting are tracks about hope for Black patients and their families in hospital care. Fecundity is about hope for former incarcerated persons returning to society. Meadower is about hope for the COVID vaccines that were on their way to market at the time. And Green from Grey is about hope for spring whilst sojourning through winter.
I pray that the Holy Spirit helps you hear sounds of hope in this instrumental music. Let me know if any of the tracks strike you in particular. I am always down for the exchange!
peace to you,
Julian
P.S. I’m thankful Spotify has shown us mad love! Today we are the cover of All New Jazz playlist and 7th on the State of Jazz Playlist.
Upcoming Event:
Notes of Rest at St. Mark UMC Chicago - Workshop and Concert
Will check out the new music soon! That’s awesome 🙏🏽 I really appreciate the heart behind your band’s music
