Introducing Fermata, A Brief Weekly Reflection
Good evening Notes of Rest Participants!
It's been wonderful serving you in the various sessions we've had over the last few weeks. Thank you for being such a gift to me and to each other. To expose each of you to other corners of the Notes of Rest network, I am starting a brief weekly reflection called "Fermata." Fermata is a musical symbol that instructs the musician to sustain the sound of that note for longer than usual. It is my hope that the sound of Christ we catch glimpses of in these different sessions can linger on in these weekly reflections, for all to hear.
This week's Fermata is on Notes of Rest for Lawyers, held back in July. We discussed John 8:1-11, where Jewish scribes and Pharisees were confronted by Jesus for trying to stone a woman to death for adultery. The participants discussed how to serve their clients with the mixture of grace and accountability that Jesus displayed in this tricky moment of arbitration. But they also discussed how to live humbly before The Lord who sees what we need spiritually when all we can see is the physical reality in front of us.
I pray these lawyers' desires be all of ours. May Jesus help us put down the stones we don't deserve to hold. May we walk home with our lives restored. And may we listen to music that helps us along the way.
from rest eternal,
Julian
